Commission Chair Art De La Cruz Announces Job Fair,
Résumé Writing Classes in July
Bernalillo County – Commission Chair Art De La Cruz today announced a job fair and résumé writing classes aimed at helping people find work.
Commissioner De La Cruz, who has made economic development a top priority, is pleased to announce a job fair at the Mesa Del Sol Aperture Center on July 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The job fair features recruiters from Verizon, the U.S. Forest Service, Friedman Recycling, Lowe’s, Admiral Beverage Corp., the University of New Mexico and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department, among others. The state Department of Workforce Solutions’ mobile unit will also be on hand to assist job seekers.
The job fair was originally scheduled for August but Commissioner De La Cruz worked to move the event up in response to the pending closure of Schott Solar’s Albuquerque facility.
“Creating jobs and improving economic opportunity is my top priority, and I’m proud to have the support of the commission and county staff as we work together to help people looking for work,” Commission Chair Art De La Cruz says. “We’ve got a great workforce and great companies here in Bernalillo County, and I’m hopeful this job fair will create more positive connections between people looking for jobs and companies looking for talent.”
Applicants are encouraged to dress professionally and bring copies of their current résumé to the job fair.
Résumé writing classes are scheduled for July 12 and 13 at the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, 1309 Fourth Street S.W.
County and chamber staff will be on hand to help applicants create new résumés and learn more about the current job market. Applicants will also be able to take their new résumés with them on a thumb drive.
Space is limited for the résumé writing classes so applicants are asked to register by calling 505.468.7818 or sending an email to ed@bernco.gov.
This is the second job fair sponsored by Commissioner De La Cruz in recent years.
“These are great opportunities for people looking for jobs or a chance to improve their résumé,” Commissioner De La Cruz says.
